New installation tips help with fitting test title

Be in the know when it comes to water pumps and camshaft belts – with the latest issues of the Technical Info bulletins

10.10.2023

Forewarned is forearmed: if mechanics ever encounter a problem while working on the belt drive, often the first thing they do is to call our technical hotline. The hotline’s experts are usually able to provide quick, straightforward assistance, but in many cases the problem is caused by minor fitting errors or a lack of clarity. To ensure that as many professional workshop mechanics as possible can benefit from these valuable tips, we publish them in our regular Technical Info bulletins – free of charge, naturally. Two new issues have just been released.

Technical Info 75:
Water pumps WP6098 and WP6124 for Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW

We all enjoy giving a small wheel a quick flick – especially if it’s on a water pump that's fresh out of the box. Many mechanics instinctively check whether the impeller wheel really turns nice and easily. Please don’t though! This “dry test“ can cause damage to the bearing and impeller whose effects only become apparent following installation, for example through water loss, noises or rising temperature.

According to our technical hotline, mechanics seem to be particularly tempted to carry out this dry test on the electrically adjustable water pumps WP6098 and WP6124. These are fitted in the very popular 1.6l and 2.0l TDI models (EA288) from the Volkswagen Group. Further installation tips for ensuring these water pumps will operate without any problems can be found here.

Technical Info 76:
Precision is vital for electronic camshaft adjustment

Good mechanics instinctively know what feels right. However, the bolts for the electronic camshaft adjustment in many 1.0-1.6l TSI engines from Volkswagen (EA211) cannot be tightened accurately enough by hand. And this precision is of vital importance as the innovative combustion process of these engines – with intake valves that close again while the intake stroke is still in progress – will only work if the timing and lead angle are exactly correct. The new Technical Info bulletin shows how to easily attain the necessary precision here.
