Whereas the water pump driven by the accessory drive in older engines actually only has to be changed if it is really worn, in modern engines it ought to be replaced whenever the multi V-belt is changed. Because repairs on the ever more complex accessory drives have now become so time-consuming that it would be irresponsible toward the customer, in light of the high labor costs, not to fit this new consumable once the accessory drive has been dismantled.
